The writing system, alphabets, was developed by a Semitic people near the area of Egypt. Based off of the Egyptian ideas of writing systems, they (Semitic people) replaced the current symbols with their own more specific symbols. This new system was quickly adopted by neighbors and relatives from both the North and East. These characters had a definite order which increased the rapid spread of alphabets. The characters in this alphabet can represent a consonant or vowel. There are 30 consonants and 5 vowels.
